A-Rod the Idiot

The idiom goes: where there's smoke, there's usually fire.  If that's the case, then Alex Rodriguez has probably got a four-alarmer blazing right about now.  This isn't his first time being linked to an underground poker game - last time Selig essentially slapped him upside the head and sent him on his merry way.  One PED story and one decently put together but utterly useless magazine article later, A-Rod is back in the limelight for doing something stupid again.

Look, I'm a poker player myself.  It shouldn't be illegal on the internet and, since it's a game of skill, should be legalized and properly regulated (such as it is in Nevada and New Jersey, among other places).  But it's not legal to run a for-profit poker room in most states and it's illegal to be in such rooms (or at the very least highly embarassing) and some of the company in those rooms will be suspect at best.  This is not the place to be if you're already massaging a poor reputation with your overbosses - the guys that can keep you from receiving paychecks when you screw up.

I can only guess one of two things - either A-Rod genuinely didn't think he was doing anything wrong, or he doesn't care about his reputation.  If the first one's the case, he has a real problem in comprehension.  If it's the second, then he deserves whatever bad press he gets.  I don't think MLB can or will suspend him, but the press he's getting should serve its purpose.
